Reflection on Week 17 of 52

Sunday Weigh In: 208.6

I didn't get to write on Sunday because I was so busy attending a conference for work, working out in the gym, and driving around Longmont looking at houses. It was a good week last week, I did all of my workouts, except for on Friday, I skipped it. Oops, oh well, it was such a weird and busy week anyway.

Just a note on cardio, I am taking it easy. I am doing anywhere from 30 - 45 minutes three days a week, but in intervals; 15 minutes on the eliptical, 15 minutes on the arc training, 15 minutes on the treadmill. I am scared about my knees hurting again, so I am easing back into it and stretching a lot. I also increase my arm weights by 2 pounds, I needed it, I can finally feel a little achiness again. This is a good sign that I am challenging those muscles.

  • Monday: Eliptical 30 minutes , free weights, core, stretch
  • Tuesday: AM Yoga, 30 min walk w/ Jorge
  • Wednesday: Eliptical 30 minutes , free weights, core, stretch

Last week was another bad week. Finally, when I was feeling like 90% on Tuesday, we went for a long walk with Jorge. Then that night I was in horrible pain with cramps. Wednesday and Thursday I was down and out, I couldn't even motivate to exercise with my cramps and some nausea. Friday there was a huge snow storm and the roads were too bad to drive. So Saturday I just laid around and read and slept. I am so out of routine and feeling like crap. I am working on building the motivation to start all over again, after about three weeks off =(

Well, I maintained even though I got sick mid-stream this week and haven't worked out since Tuesday. Last Sunday was good, I got back into the gym having fun, doing three different exercises. Then Monday I went in and just did the eliptical, I was skipping the treadmill due to my knee. I upped my free weights to 8lbs and really felt it this time. Tuesday I did Kundalini yoga and had an awesome time. I felt stronger than the last time. Then Wednesday on the way to the gym I felt my breathing my shallow and I had been coughing all day. I wanted to go after work since Dan wasn't coming. We usually work out in the mornings, but when Dan doesn't go (he was sick) I go after work. I had been feeling kind of weird all day. I read my intuition and decided to turn right around and go home. I was right, Thursday I was feeling a little worse and then come Friday I was down for the count.

I was so soar due to Kundalini yoga, I couldn't tell if it was from the workout or the sickness. Ha! Don't want to go through that again. I do admit, I seriously miss working out. This sucks. I haven't been able to get a great workout in for about three weeks now. Sad to say too that it's coming down to canceling our gym membership. We have to cut it in order to save money and that makes me sad and scared. I'm scared I'll go back to my starting weight, I admit. However I beleive if I make a good plan and stick with it, that won't happen. I have to take advantage of the great outdoors since it's getting so nice out. I must be inventive. We'll be cancelling Monday, which will actually give us through the end of May since we had to pay the last month.

April and May will be transition months, working out in the gym and integrating new outdoor workouts. I hate to run outside, but my love of the runner's high will make me get outside and run anyway. I'll find a love of running in the outdoors, I know I will. It will take time. More to come on the transition later.

Plan for Week 15 of 52

Back to a new routine, sort of. I have to tell the truth and say it was nice not going to the gym for a whole week, however I could tell that all of my energy was trying to get out somehow. I'm proud to say I am so used to going to the gym and working out, that my body actually expected it and missed it! It was nice to go over there today and get my heart rate up, despite the massive knee pain.

I still don't want to push it too hard this week, I am working on finding a good balance for my time, meaning not being at the gym 6 days a week. Mentally, I can go only 4 or 5 times, physically I could go everyday really, but I enjoy my time at home and outside. Last week it was nice having Wednesday through Friday be "short" days, not going to the gym and only working 8 hours at the office.

Workout plan for the week:
  • Sunday: Bike 15 min, Eliptical 15 min, Treadmill Run 15 min, Core
  • Monday: Arc Trainer 15 min, Eliptical 15 min, Treadmill Run 15 min, Free weights, Core
  • Tuesday: Kundalini Yoga 60 min
  • Wednesday: Eliptical 25 min, Treadmill Run 20 min, Free weights, Core
  • Thursday: 15 minute A.M. yoga, 45 min walk w/ Jorge
  • Friday: Eliptical 15 min, Treadmill Run 45 min, Free weights, Core
  • Saturday: Bike Ride, Snowshoe, or a Hike
Dinner plan for the week:
  • Sunday: Salad w/ bacon and tomato
  • Monday: Salad w/ Ham and tomato
  • Tuesday: Rice and veggies
  • Wednesday: Tuna Salad
  • Thursday: Cous Cous and veggies
  • Friday: Chicken and peas
  • Saturday: Something in the crock pot sounds good, not sure what yet though

Reflection on Week 14 of 52

Sunday Weigh In: 208.8

In two weeks I have lost 3 pounds, surprising since I didn't go to the gym for more than a week. Ok, my plan for last week fell through the cracks. At the resort I did do yoga once and stretched a few times, plus we went for a few walks while there, nice and relaxing. This past Wednesday through Saturday I didn't go back to the gym. I had no motivation or maybe I was just enjoying not being in pain and aching all of the time. He he he. However, today, Sunday I did head to the gym and eased myself back into it. I did 15 minutes on the bike, 15 minutes on the eliptical, and 15 minutes running on the treadmill.

Unfortunately, my right knee is still killing me. This is starting to really irritate me, it makes my running workout harder because it feels like my knee is going to give and sometimes it doesn't and I panic and hit the pause button. My heart rate and lung capacity is great, I want to be able to push myself and go longer so this knee thing better shape up. I am going to do a bunch of research tonight, find some stretches, etc.
