Heart Rates and Extreme Hunger

This week I have had a slight decrease in energy. My muscles have been sore and they feel heavy. Such a strange feeling to try to get my legs going and my arms to do weights. I’ve kept doing my routine however, not letting this slow me down too much. I’ve noticed a difference in my heart rate. I am recovering faster now, meaning that when I am running, my heart will go to around 155, then I slow down for the walk portion of my interval and I recover to around 135 faster. My resting heart rate has also slowed. This is a good sign of progress.

I’ve also noticed that I’ve been extremely hungry this week. I’m having a few cravings here and there, but overall, I am just hungry. If I decide to have a snack, it’s something good like protein or fiber or within calorie limitations. I’ve done well this week avoiding alcohol in the evenings. I only had a few glasses of wine last night (I splurged). One thing I have been crazing is protein, like meat. Weird, because I never crave that, maybe some taco meat once in a while. Maybe my muscles are trying to tell me something. Tuesday night when I got off of the eliptical, I was SO thirsty. It felt like I was in a desert and I couldn’t drink enough water. I stopped at the store after the gym and bought some Recharge. This stuff is all natural and has no High Fructose Corn Syrup like Gatorade, Powerade, and SoBe. I avoid HFCS as much as possible. After I drank that Recharge, I felt a lot less thirsty and a lot better. I’m taking in about 75 ounces of water a day, but that may not be enough in this climate.

We’ve been working out a lot in the mornings, I don’t know if I really like this. It’s hard to get up, get dressed and go to the gym in the morning. I feel like when I work out at night I have a lot more energy to push it hard, but in the mornings I just want to go through the motions and get it done. It might be because I am afraid of getting to work too late and having to stay too late to get in an 8 hour day. It’s all mental. However, mixing it up would be a good idea so that my body doesn't get used to one routine and needs to work hard.

Sometimes a craving is just a craving, but sometimes it is your body telling you it needs something. If you are building muscle then your body may need extra protein. Your muscles will get it from other parts of your body that may be using it, so you may want to add an extra half portion of lean meat to your meal plan a few times a week. Remember the stories about pregnant women eating dirt? It was because they were not getting the minerals their body needed.
